At the outset we would like to introduce ourselves as the
Main Franchisee for ALMA –
Abacus Learning Mental Arithmetic - a tried and tested
process of knowledge transmission in the faculty of arithmetic.
Stepping Stones (SSI) -
A delightfully and daringly different experience of learning
and sharing- where learning is a way of life!
Stepping Stones will host ALMA sessions at their new campus
in HSR Layout.
ALMA has actually evolved
by a pool of trained professionals passionate about Abacus
with a mission to share this knowledge with children and make
arithmetic more fun. As they say, "Share a rupee and
both still have a rupee, share an idea and both have two ideas".
Vaidehi M Shanker has been committed and passionate about
the teaching profession despite tight schedules as a banker.
Vaidehi born and brought up in Mumbai, and having stayed in
Dubai, brings with her a vast and varied experience of Mumbai
& Dubai. With over a decade of teaching experience, being
with kids is second skin to her and hence makes her very accessible
and the most wanted by the children.
The Objectives of ALMA-SSI:
Every member at ALMA-SSI is committed to
the following mission:
For the children:
- To make arithmetic more fun.
- To improve efficacy in handling numbers.
For the parents:
- To make knowledge sharing more affordable to all.
- To arm the child with abilities to face life analytically.
For the teacher's fraternity & the society at
large:
- To imbibe a sense of discipline amongst students
- To have an overall rounded personality having empathy
for all and respect for teachers.
Current Situation:
In a world that is increasingly being driven by numbers, it
is only imperative that children be armed to handle and tackle
numbers effectively. Each child is blessed with intelligence
that is vast and varied. Some children are skilled in Alphabets,
some relish Numbers and some excel in Zoology. It is for us
to take every corrective step to ensure their future and contribute
to the society from which we are continuously withdrawing
and reaping. Quote, ?We believe that we have inherited the
earth from our ancestors, little do we realize that we have
actually borrowed it from our children.? Today?s children
are under tremendous pressure of competition, of peer pressure,
of parental pressure, and we are already seeing its effect
on the society at large. It is high time that we make learning
fun and make the children want to come rather than, ?Sonny,
You are getting late for school, Hurry Up.? – Almost
an omnipotent phrase for today.
We at ALMA-SSI have analyzed the problems into three categories
and have addressed each of these issues.
Problems of Children:

- LEADING TO PHOBIA FOR LEARNING ESPECIALLY MATHS
- LACK OF ABILITY TO CONCENTRATE

- ALL THIS CONTRIBUTE TO LOW/SLOW PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT
AND LOW SELF ESTEEM & SELF CONFIDENCE

Problems of Parents:
- PARENTS FEEL CHILDREN NOT PERFORMING TO POTENTIAL
- PROBLEMS OF SECURING ADMISSION IN LEADING INSTITUTIONS
- FORCE RAT RACE ON CHILDREN TO AVOID HEAVY CAPITATION FEES
- FEAR OF FAILURE OF CHILD
- PEER/NEIGHBOURS PRESSURE
Problems of Teachers:
- STUDENTS DO NOT PAY ATTENTION
- LARGE NUMBERS OF STUDENTS AT VARYING LEVELS OF KNOWLEDGE
ASSIMILATION
- STUDENTS UNABLE TO EXPRESS
- LESS THAN ANTICIPATED RESULTS
Implications:
